THE GLORY DUE TO HIS NAME

By: Mike Greene

And a book of remembrance was written before Him for them that feared Yahweh, and that thought upon His Name (Malachi 3:16b). This is one book that I certainly want to be included in! We see that Yahweh takes pleasure in the fact that we know and use His Name.

I was invited to Sabbath services at an assembly some time ago by a friend who was giving a sermon there once a month. This assembly had just had new songbooks printed and there were some last-minute additions. To my friend’s dismay, these new additions used titles instead of the true Names we have come to love. And wouldn’t you know, these particular songs had been picked to be sung at this time by the person who was in charge of the music. I was shocked to hear these titles being used by an assembly professing to believe in Yahweh and Yahshua. After services, when the young man was asked about these new songs, he replied that they were nice songs and you wouldn’t just throw them out, would you? I would not have to think very hard to figure that out.

I also recently listened to a taped message of an elder of another (supposedly) Sacred Name assembly in which he believed it was alright to use common titles when referring to Yahweh or Yahshua. We have been blessed to be chosen to learn the true Names that Yahweh chose for Himself and His Son and there is no excuse to use false names or titles after being enlightened to the truth.

A couple of scriptures readily come to mind that may explain this absurdity: As a dog returneth to his vomit, so a fool returneth to his folly (Proverbs 26:11).

For it had been better for them not to have known the way to righteousness than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them. But it happened to them according to the true proverb, “THE DOG IS TURNED TO HIS OWN VOMIT AGAIN,” and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire (2 Peter 2:21, 22).

We learn from Exodus 3:14 about the Tetragrammaton. Verse 15 tells us: This is My memorial unto all generations. It’s rather apparent that Yahweh wants us to use His Name. There is a question asked in Proverbs 30:4, What is His Name and what is His Son’s name, if you can tell? It cannot be answered correctly by many people, even Bible students. Yahshua Himself declared that He came in His Father’s Name (John 5:43) and would not be received; however, the world readily receives Jesus.

So who benefits from calling on a false name or title? For she did not know that I gave her corn, and wine, and oil and multiplied her gold and silver, which she prepared for Baal (Hosea 2:8). The ox knoweth his owner, and the ass his master’s crib, but Israel doth not know, My people do not consider. Ah, a sinful nation, a people laden with iniquity, a seed of evildoers, children that are corruptors: they have forsaken Yahweh, they have provoked the Holy One of Israel unto anger, they have gone backward (Isaiah 1:3, 4).

If we continued in backsliding and not staying in the truth, what would we do next? We might forsake the Sabbath: Why should ye be stricken any more? Ye will revolt more and more: the whole head is sick and the whole heart faint (Isaiah 1:5).

The Sacred Name movement was built on two strong truths that set it apart from all others: keeping the Sabbath days (weekly and annual) and believing in the true Names. To forsake these truths would only weaken us to revolt more until we sink back to worshipping lords and gods. From these lowly depths, it could be a smooth transition to the new world order/religion.

Also the sons of the stranger, that join themselves to Yahweh, to serve Him and to love the Name of Yahweh, to be His servants, every one that keepeth the Sabbath from polluting it, and taketh hold of My covenant (Isaiah 56:6). How can we love the Name of Yahweh and call on baal (lord) or god (Teutonic heathen worship) or any other trivial title?

And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the Name of Yahweh shall be delivered: for in Mount Zion and in Jerusalem shall be deliverance, as Yahweh hath said, and in the remnant whom Yahweh shall call (Joel 2:32). This is also echoed in Psalms 55:16, Acts 2:21 and Romans 10:13. At this time, calling on a “lord” or “god” may very well have the same result that the 450 prophets of Baal received in 1 Kings 18.

Yahweh has been very specific in the way He wants us to worship Him. We see in Exodus 30:9 a warning about offering strange incense: Ye shall offer no strange incense thereon, nor burnt sacrifice, nor meat offering; neither shall ye pour drink offering thereon. Leviticus 10:1 and 2 tell us what happened to Nadab and Abihu when they foolishly offered strange fire. We can learn an important lesson about Uzza when he put forth his hand to hold the ark in 1 Chronicles 13. What seems to have been a righteous act of protecting the ark, resulted in Uzza being smote by Yahweh. If Yahweh was angered here, what do you think He would feel about someone calling Him by something other than what He chose?

They provoked Him to jealously with strange gods, with abominations provoked they Him to anger (Deuteronomy 32:16). No one has the authority to change anything that Yahweh has established.

For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall much be required (Luke 12:48b). We read of a warning about blind watchmen in Isaiah 56:10, 11 and in Isaiah 58:1 which say to lift up their voice like a trumpet. So what do you suppose could happen if shepherds and blind watchmen do not teach the truth? We see another warning in 1 Corinthians 14:8: For if the trumpet give an uncertain sound, who shall prepare himself to battle?

Yahshua says He declared and manifested Yahweh's Name in John 17. Now let’s read Hebrews 2:12, I WILL DECLARE THY NAME UNTO MY BRETHREN, IN THE MIDST OF THE ASSEMBLY WILL I SING PRAISE UNTO THEE. Refer also to Psalms 22:22 and Psalms 45:17.

Now, let’s see what Micah 5:4 says: And He shall stand and feed in the strength of Yahweh, in the majesty of the Name of Yahweh His Elohim; and they shall abide: for now shall He be great unto the ends of the earth. Notice, in the MAJESTY OF THE NAME OF YAHWEH. There is no majesty in “lord” or “god!”

They shall be ashamed, and also confounded, all of them: they shall go to confusion together that are makers of idols (Isaiah 45:16). For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work (James 3:16).

Let’s also look at what is a confusing statement from the KJV in Psalms 110:1 where “lord” is used (also in Matthew 22:43, Mark 12:36, Luke 20:42 and Acts 2:34). THE LORD SAID UNTO MY LORD… Why should there be any confusion? And who is the author of confusion? We know from 1 Corinthians 14:33 that it is not Yahweh. So who would want to use “lord” or “god” where Yahweh should be used, thus creating confusion? Satan, the great deceiver, would love to confuse everyone and turn them from the majesty of Yahweh’s Name.

Joshua (actually he had the same name as Yahshua) tells us this in Joshua 24:14 and 15. This wisdom: Now therefore fear Yahweh, and serve Him in sincerity and truth… Also ...but as for me and my house, we will serve Yahweh. Do you think Joshua would be foolish enough to use inferior substitutes?

Let me close with 1 Chronicles 16:29, Give unto Yahweh the glory due unto His Name: bring an offering, and come before Him; worship Yahweh in the beauty of holiness.

Notice again, THE GLORY DUE UNTO HIS NAME!

HalleluYAH!
