UNITY CONFERENCE 2009

Endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace, Eph. 4:1.

The Unity Conference was called to order by Elder Pete Vacca this year due to Pastor Sam Graham’s recent hip operation. After a word of prayer, Elder Pete read a heartfelt message to the conference by Elder Sam: "I send my regrets that we cannot be there this year! But know that I love you and will miss everyone. You must guard the truth with all your strength, keeping Yahshua in the forefront of your minds keeping His love in your hearts. I will be there in spirit. Please continue to pray for me and for Connie, who is having some health issues right now, too. May Yahweh bless you all with a wonderful conference."

We had a wonderful Unity Conference again this year with Yahweh’s Spirit present. Although some of the topics presented were not in agreement with others present, a spirit of love did prevail.

We had a good turn-out with at least 19 states represented! We were blessed to have brothers from the Philippines, Kenya and India also in attendance, and 20 elders were there to support and give spiritual guidance to the family of Yahweh. A number of people said that it seemed like a “mini feast” rather than a Unity Conference. We were also blessed to have one baptism.

Brother Tony Suckla gave an interesting report on his missionary achievements in India and showed slides of the school they are building and some of the brother and sisters there. It was good to see how the work has progressed over the past 10 years and to see how Yahweh’s truth is being taught in the midst of a very idolatrous country. May Yahweh continue to bless his endeavors there.

Elders Jake Meyer, Jerry Healan, and Peter Kihara gave a report on the Kenya work and the growth that has taken place since Elder Jake has been going there to minister to them. Slides were shown that helped us realize how poor these people are but the love they have for Yahweh and His truth is phenomenal. The Good News of the Kingdom must be preached to all the world before Yahshua’s return and these men are helping this prophecy to come to pass. Let’s keep the missionary work in our prayers that Yahweh will continue pouring out His blessings on these people who are eager to learn more about His word.

Brother Barry Wittrock presented a report on a new venture in the prison ministry. He is organizing a half-way house in Missouri, called Yahweh's Vineyard of Refuge, so men who believe in Yahweh will have a place to go when released from prison to help them readjust to society. Many of these men go back to where they came from and back to their previous lifestyle.

Elder Farris Wilks gave an encouraging message Sabbath called, “Are We a Happy People?” He said that we should not be anxious about the future, but we should have faith that Yahweh will provide our every need. We should live each day to the fullest and put all our cares on Him.

Elder Frank Brown spoke on “Anger” and the difference between righteous anger and anger without a cause. James, chapter 3, says that the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity and can defile the whole body. Our conversations should be pure. It was very thought-provoking.

Elder Hector Castillo gave a great message on “The Covenant that is Done Away.” He said that we have been “conditioned” to believe that the “old” is done away and the “new” is something fresh and no longer needed. Homosexuality is being taught as acceptable behavior in our schools and immorality is flourishing due to the lack of teaching Torah.

Elder George Garner followed with a dynamic teaching on “Yahweh’s Law.” It was closely related to Elder Hector’s message. He quoted from Isaiah 24, verses 5-6, “The earth is defiled by its people; they have disobeyed the laws, violated the statutes and broken the everlasting covenant. Therefore a curse consumes the earth; its people must bear their guilt. Therefore earth’s inhabitants are burned up, and very few are left.” Then Revelation 14:12 speaks of those who keep the Commandments—their deeds will follow them. How blessed we are to know Yahweh’s word.

“There is one body and one Spirit—just as you were called to one hope when you were called—one Master, one faith, one baptism . . .” Eph. 4:4. Let’s strive to be “one body” as Yahshua is calling His bride to be ready for Him at His coming.
